Saying Goodbye to My Favorite Author

Wow, it's so much going on lately. Death is like sweeping through Hollywood, the music industry; just the world period. This is crazy, but unfortunately something that we were warned about. In this sinful world death is the promise of life. Scary though, but it is what it is.


Last week I found out that one of my favorite authors; E. Lynn Harris died at the age of 54 from a heart attack. Dude was still young! He was extremely talented. He was a homosexual man, and I can remember reading 'Invisible Life' back in high school. Back then I was struggling with my own sexuality, and reading his words and his biography helped me come to grips with myself as a person and what I prefer.

He gave so much variety in is publishing's. Although, most surrounded professional athletes on the down low; the plot was always thick and unpredictable. He was one of my idols when it comes to best selling authors. It's no secret that one day I want to have my own works published. Life is getting shorter and shorter. Before I leave this earth, I want my words dancing across the minds of people worldwide.

Nookie Needs A Revolution...Woot! Woot!
"Stop the track! Let me state facts. I told you give me a minute and I'll be right back!"


Since the new year I've been down, but I'm up again. It could be the 3 redbulls I had this morning, but I'm going to run with this feeling anyway. Yesterday my horoscope told me to be revolutionary in my thinking. Revolutionary is a powerful word. Positive change is in action! Well I came to a few revolutions this morning driving to work.

1. If I liked it, then I would've put a ring on it, and sweetheart's hand is as bare as a baby's behind. Now she gonna learn, what it really feels like to miss me. It's funny how all this delicate attention is being given to me when I'm out the door. Ahhhh again! "People never get the flowers while they can still smell em'!"

2. I was trying to take folks to another level when I realized there were no passengers on my plane.

So you're Beyonce now?! Yes, I've heard this bitch so much, that I believe I'm Sasha Fierce. Okay, I'm going to stop quoting B, but seriously…

3. I'm everything I need to fill every void within me.

4. People whose heads are stuck up their asses have no room for Mica Mica in their lives. So I gotta kick em' out, kick em' out, kick em' out. Switch em' out, switch em' out, switch em' out! Was that B. again? Sorry.

5. 2009 is not the year for me to settle. I've settled for 24 years. This year marks my 25th. That's in 36 days to be exact. Wonder if my friends (whoever they might be) will be around for that occasion. Probably not. Oh wait! Revolutionary thinking!!

6. I am going to concentrate on my family more. I've been worried about other folks, who clearly ain't worried about me. It's time to focus on the ones that actually matter, and who will be here when it's all said and done. I went to church with my mom on Sunday, and I need to do that more often. I surprised her on Sunday, and just seeing the look and smile on my Queen Bea's face melted my little ice cold heart. I want to see that smile every chance I get. So I'm coming around more mom! I promise.

7. January 1st was the anniversary of my big brother's murder. I think so heavily around this time of year. Speaking on family above, I want to reach out to his 3 little girls more. The last time I saw them, they were little. One was an infant. I know they are so big now. I mean I just saw my sister's kids last weekend and my nephew is going to be 16 this year, and my niece just turned 13 last week. I know my brother's oldest daughter who is the spitting image of him, has to be at least 17 or 18 now. If I find them, I hope that they accept me and shower me with love like they did the Christmas at my parents house which was the last time I got to hug my bro; 6 days before he died.

8. I'm actually doing good in my life. I did so much shit last year that I am super proud of. I'm maintaining, and I'm growing on so many levels (no short jokes needed, but highly anticipated.) I want to keep it all going this year. It started off rocky, but that was my own fault. I swallowed myself in my own sorrow. I found myself blaming others for my misery, which went against what I try to live by.
I guess you can see these are my revolutionary resolutions for my year of continuation. I want to start writing again, because I feel so discombobulated when I don't. I'm surely not trying to lose my damn mind in '09!!!
Kicking My Own Ass
I am suffering through this time spent at work today. I had a rather depressing and emotional weekend. I crawled up in my sheets escaping from my everyday world. I accepted very few calls; not wanting to be bothered by anyone. The things racing through my brain have been the same things racing on my brain for some time now. There are so many things I need to do for myself, and only myself starting now. I declare 2009 as a year for me. Spiritually, mentally and physically. I seemed to get myself together financially in 2008; which means that I reached my main goal, but I am lacking still in so many areas. I guess this weekend; the thought of it all just got the best of me. I know that the things that I'm going through right now are only being brought about by myself, because I'm not taking the proper steps to resolve my issues. I know there is a blessing waiting for me around the corner, but I keep turning left when I should be turning right.

I use this month to mentally prepare myself for my much needed changes in life. I am a creature of routine, and the thought of change alone brings me great adversity. I want to welcome prosperity in my life, but I need to do the work in order to get there. I'm not a lucky kid, things don't just fall in my lap. I'm blessed, but I have to stay on my grind at all times to get what I want. My life is not lavish and full of luxuries brought about by other people. My material enjoyments are purchased with my hard earned money. They don't call me 'Miss. I Got It' for nothing, ya dig? The prosperity seeping through my friends and family are always welcomed with open arms. I'd hate to find out where I'd be without them. However, they can only do so much for me. I have many responsibilities in life that I've put off. I've said "oh, I'll handle them tomorrow." My tomorrow literally never comes.




I'm sick of the taste of my own blood, caused by me punching myself in the mouth. I await the sweet taste of victory, but I gotta stop beating myself up. It's not a good look.

Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death!
Well, I hope everyone had a splendid weekend. I'm not sure about other cities, but it was rather cold out here in Houston. We Texans are not use to cold weather this soon in November. I really enjoyed my weekend. We had our first meeting with The Black Experience group. It wasn't a good turnout, but it was a great success. It ended up only being four of us, but the conversation that we had was mind blowing to say the least. I surprised myself at how much I spoke my mind, and laid out personal facts from my past. Even my best friend had to look twice at me, to see it was actually me speaking. It takes a while for me to warm up to new people, and I do NOT talk much during a first encounter. I have to feel out the scene, and dissect the people before I speak. Something felt different this time. I felt like I needed to say something. I was at liberty to say something. My pride wouldn't allow me NOT to say something.

I mentioned Friday that the meeting was held at The Shrine of Black Madonna, and in one of the big meeting rooms there was an African Holocaust Exhibit. We didn't even know that it was there, we just happened to be roaming around, and we heard this music playing. It was soft, sad and sultry. It sort of pulled us into that direction.

One of the things we spoke about in the meeting was black people and our pride. I mentioned that I feel that black people have pride in the wrong things. We have pride in our rides, our big homes, our flashy jewelry, and all things adding up to great material value, but we seem to have no pride in our history. Part of the reason why we opted to have this meeting and call it The Black Experience, was to get more in touch with our past. Our individual pasts. How did we get to where we are today? Do we truly understand where we came from? Perhaps if we confirmed and understood our past we could develop some real pride to hold on to.

I wonder what the exact number is of the people who died for freedom. Died for speaking their mind. Died for the safety of their family. Died for the compensation they earned. Died for their last name. Died for the color of their skin. Do you have pride in those who have died for your freedom? I do, because as I strolled through that exhibit I realized just how far we've come, but also how far we still have to go. I couldn't even imagine living back in those times. I couldn't imagine being caged for days on end, because I tried to shield my children from pain. I couldn't imagine being shackled by the feet, neck and hands while red ants were poured at my feet to eat me alive. It was those same men and women who dies these horrible deaths that had pride in something more deep than one could imagine. It were these same men and women who said, "give me liberty, or give me death!"

Yes We Did, So Now What?


Needless to say, I'm not the "politics as usual" type of woman due to my religious beliefs, but I am however glad to see history in the making like everyone else it seems like. Although I am a firm believer in God's original plan, I still feel that he was the best candidate for office during this time. He has given the country hope, and this is something that Americans have not had for a long time now. As far as major change and all promises brought forth by Obama, I'm not too sure. If he in fact does not deliver, the hope factor will take people a long way I truly believe. Besides, what's life if you don't have faith in some sort of hope in peace? Pretty dreadful, I must say.

I've came across some butthurt people today, because of the recent election. I have a couple co-workers that were McCain all the way! One guy even went as far as telling one of my co-workers that she only voted for Obama, because her boyfriend was black. Hm, with her being Hispanic, this didn't sit too well with her. She did get very offended, but she wasn't able to defend herself. Of course me being right there in ear shot, advised him that it was ignorant comments like what he stated that got Obama the vote. The hope of change. Unfortunately, he won't be able to change ignorance, but hey one can only HOPE right?

I've had some ignorant things being stated by my own people as well today. People who were acting a fool before the election making this the opprotunity to truly act a fool with "Presidential permission." *Sigh* My people stating that the refuse to work for the rest of the week, because their President is black. So since Obama won, this is how you feel...



Half of the peole weren't doing shit before Obama even thought about running for President. My ex told me one of her friends stated now that Obama was in office she could say anything she wanted to say. If I'm not mistaken, freedom of speech has been around for quite some time. I mean I could be wrong. You tell me. Bottom line, I am happy about the new edition to our black history, but as usual, some people are taking things way too far. I have a strong feeling that it will only get worse. However at this moment, the hope for change is in front of our faces, so now what?

I am on edge today and in a serious bitch mode; so I opted not to post anything today. However, I had to introduce someone to you guys. This woman has been here with me for quite some time. I've been knowing her for a very long time. Although we've had our fair share of disagreements and fall outs; in my heart she is my greatest friend. She's my damn sanity ya'll and the best part of my damn day. She's always been a devoted reader of mine and is not afraid to give her honest opinion. So with all of that said everyone meet. The Discovery Of Borrowed Perception

I've voiced many times on how much of a people person I am NOT, but how I love the study of people. I find humans to be very interesting, because there are so many different characters, personalities, and cultures out there to explore. Each person has their own perspective on life and things in life. That is intriguing within itself. Take the blog world for instance; I will sit and read so many blogs throughout my day and some of them happen to be on the same topics, but the opinions and perspectives are different. Each person may learn a different lesson with the same situation. That peaks my interest.

When I see art; I sit and I think about how I view it and what that particular piece brings forth out of me, but also what others may be seeing when they look at it. This goes with poetry, and music as well. The human brain is amazing and it is so powerful. Sometimes I look at newborn babies and I wonder what their personality will be like. What will they believe in? I wonder what their first thoughts were when they opened their eyes in this big scary world. Unfortunately my memory does not go back that far, loll.

It would be so dull to just look at things from one perspective. Explore. Looking at things from how other's may look at them has helped me to become more understanding and has helped me to be more patient. This voyage of discovery has been great thus far. There are so many more things in my life that will be introduced to me and so many people whose perception I will borrow to help me understand them. Something I surely look forward to.




Totally Stoked!
Last night I was up anticipating this half vacation day. After working like a Hebrew slave day in and day out; just having a few hours at home to myself is like my piece of heaven. I only took the day off from my full-time job to have my phone, Internet and cable installed in my apartment. Which is another event I have been waiting for. I have been working for a cable company part-time for the past 6 1/2 months and still hadn't gotten any hooked up for myself. Of course, I'm not sure when I'll have time to watch it anyway, loll. So I'm wide awake laying in my bed letting the sounds of The Isley Brothers take me away on my iPod stereo, while blog surfing on my sidekick. I have never read so many blogs in one sitting in my life. I was totally intrigued by every single one of them; hanging on to every word. There are so many talented, opinionated and free spirited people out here. Where have they been all my life!? I have been suffering from a mild case of brain damage dealing with the people that I encounter on a daily basis. So yes, I was totally stoked.

I'm reading, reading and reading some more. I am new to this whole blog spot thing and have come to realize that I am a new kid on the block here and would like to fit in somewhere. At least have a couple of people read my words a day. Even if they don't, I'm totally fine with reading theirs. I've received a few comments here and there on a few blogs and they are greatly appreciated and I hope that those readers keep on reading. Most of my ink traces have been left on Myspace and I have quite a few readers there, but I guess you can say I outgrew that scene. I still write on Downelink for my oddly close minded lesbian and gay friends. I was a tad bit sick of every lesbian thinking they were born a poet just because they are homosexual. Please beat it! Being a lesbian, I find it very offending that my community is so full of hypocrisy. Ugh! So I definitely needed a break from that scene. I have my thoughts on that whole issue, but I'll save that for another blog. Therefore, I'll take a break from the misguided homos and mingle with the heteros. Hope they don't suffer from the "phobia". It's not contagious; unless you want it to be, loll.

My life has it's ups and downs just as most folks. I'm not considered to be part of the average group of humans. So I would think folks may find my blogs to be quite interesting. A day in the life of Tamica Nicole is never dull, I'll say that much. My mind won't allow me to have a dull moment. It's a blessing and a curse all in the same as I've always said. I'm looking forward to this new scene and this new experience in the blog world.
